This training focuses on establishing a robust coaching culture within organizations to prioritize continuous learning and development. Supervisors will learn how to foster an environment that encourages open communication, trust, and mutual respect, forming the foundation for effective coaching relationships. By embedding coaching practices into the organizational ethos, supervisors will be more inclined to adopt and sustain these practices, enhancing overall team performance and growth. This approach will refresh participants to Kadushin’s Model of Supervision and how coaching fits within it; a framework for supervision that encompasses three key components of supervision, which include educational, supportive, and administrative functions. Integration of the Safety Framework and tools to utilize within coaching will be included throughout sessions for increased practice relevance. Completion of Supervisor Coaching 1 is a prerequisite for enrolling in subsequent Supervisor Coaching 2, 3, 4, which can then be completed in any order. At this time this course is only offered for child welfare and child protection workers. The training allows trainees to gain knowledge of trafficking and exploitation, and to develop skills pertinent to the child welfare response to youth and families impacted by trafficking and exploitation. The goal of this training is to provide staff with the knowledge and skills to: identify trafficking, identify exploitation, identify youth at-risk of trafficking or exploitation, assess and respond to potential trafficking and exploitation of youth, and coordinate with partners in meeting the needs of youth and families; and demonstrate culturally responsive practice. Intended Audience: Experienced workers who have not completed Foundations training (since 2020) or SEY x203 or x204 (since 2019). 6.0 CEUs.

Through performance coaching, supervisors will enhance both their own skills and those of their team by setting clear goals, providing constructive feedback, and developing action plans. This approach not only drives productivity and job satisfaction but also ensures that staff performance aligns with organizational standards and objectives. In support of the Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA), Qualified Individual (QI) Training is available to prepare clinicians and community members to help reduce the number of children in child care institutions. QIs provide an objective and independent review of the needs and strengths of children to determine whether or not those needs can be met within their family or family foster home with community services, rather than being placed in a child care institution, known as a Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP). Learners must first be approved by DCYF to register. 12.0 CEUs.

It will introduce you to engaging and conducting interviews with applicants and explore how to equitably and collaboratively assess an applicant's strengths and needs. By enhancing your knowledge of the Home Study Assessment, you will enhance your ability to gather, synthesize, assess, and summarize an applicant’s ability to provide for the safety and well-being of children. In this training, learners will be equipped with the skills to support family safety and well-being in child welfare cases complicated by domestic violence. The course explores the dynamics of domestic violence, emphasizing cultural and historical factors, power dynamics, and intersectionality. This course replaces “CWTA X209: Domestic Violence Co-Occurrence: Partnering and Engaging Parents”. While this training continues to focus on how to engage with adult victims and offenders, there is a significant expansion of content in the area of assessing and planning for safety within the context of child protection as well as new content on engaging with children of offenders and adult victims. Through trauma-informed and strength-based approaches, participants will practice engagement skills and develop competency in recognizing and documenting patterns of abuse. Learners will apply these skills and knowledge to scenario-based exercises to develop their ability to promote the safety, permanency, and well-being of children and families while fostering professional growth and systemic improvement. 12.0 CEUs

The Motivational Interviewing (MI) Skills for Child Welfare Professionals: Pathway 2 (Agency Hosted) course requires learners who have completed a minimum of 15 hours of Motivational Interviewing training by a MINT member or Academy approved trainer to provide electronic documentation of a minimum of 15 hours of training that includes applied practice of basic MI skills. Learners will then be asked to demonstrate their MI skills through a series of simulated encounters. Learners will watch a series of videos that simulate a person they might be working with as a child welfare professional. After each video, learners will record themselves as if they were responding to this person sitting across from them in a way that is consistent with the MI skills and approach. Learner’s responses will be reviewed at the end of the course, a final score will be assigned, and they will receive feedback on their demonstration.

As the initial course in the Minnesota Child Welfare Training Academy's New Worker Training series, New Worker Orientation: Self-Paced Modules is an interactive, self-paced, virtual training designed to give you a basic understanding of the Minnesota child welfare system. You’ll be introduced to the values, concepts, and practices underlying child welfare practice in Minnesota, and you’ll gain an understanding of, and become familiar with, the following areas: Development of Cultural Practice for New Workers Roles and Responsibilities of Child Welfare Workers in Minnesota Structure of the Child Welfare System Child Welfare History and Policy Guiding Statutes and Practices Family Assessment/Family Investigation Disparity and Disproportionality Self-Care and Well-Being Mandated Reporting Please note: You must complete this course before you can register for New Worker Orientation: Instructor-Led Enhancement. Minnesota professionals identified by law who must make a report if suspected or known child maltreatment has occurred are considered Mandated Reporters. This includes individuals working in healthcare, social services, youth programs, human services, mental health services, child care, education, law enforcement, coaching, or probation/corrections, as well as those working as guardians ad litem or as clergy. This 60-minute training is self-paced and does not require a Training Portal profile. Learners will receive a Certificate of Completion by email. 1.0 CEUs.

Educational supervision content will strengthen coaching, communication, and professional development practices to foster continuous learning and reflective practice across teams. Administrative supervision training will cover policy, conflict resolution, performance management, and change management, ensuring supervisors can confidently navigate organizational responsibilities while reinforcing trust and accountability. The final simulation-based training provides a safe and realistic environment for applying these skills holistically, preparing supervisors to lead effective and resilient teams dedicated to promoting the safety and well-being of children and families. 52.5 CEUs

SSIS Essentials is a collection of ten lessons designed to provide caseworkers with an introduction to basic navigation and functionality of core SSIS functions. Learning is self-paced and experiential. This course takes approximately 5 hours to complete. While not required, we strongly suggest that all new workers complete this course. This is the same SSIS Essentials found in TrainLink, but will be reflected in your Training Portal training record. 5.0 CEUs

This fully virtual self-paced course provides a foundation for new child welfare leaders in Minnesota, combining four self-paced trainings designed to build essential supervisory knowledge and skills. Learners will explore Alfred Kadushin's three approaches to supervision—Administrative, Educational, and Supportive—while also examining ethical and reflective practices. The course discusses supervisory practice in alignment with the Minnesota Child Welfare Framework and Values. Learners will begin developing a personal Leadership Mission Statement to guide their practice with vision and integrity. This course also introduces the Safety Practice Profiles as a practical tool for coaching and skill-building across teams. The Intercultural Development Continuum (IDC) will be used to support growth in cultural responsiveness. Learners will complete the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) assessment and participate in a one-on-one debrief. Together, these trainings prepare new supervisors to lead with clarity, compassion, and a commitment to equitable, values-driven child welfare practice. 5.5 CEUs

This 2-hour self-paced online course is for anyone who uses the MAPCY tool, enters it into SSIS, and/or approves it, including staff at county agencies, Tribal agencies, and private agencies. This is a foundational training that is appropriate for new workers as well as a refresher for seasoned workers. The likely audience for this course is assessors who need to know how to complete the MAPCY and submit it for review and approval. The focus of this course is how to complete an accurate and high-quality assessment in a timely manner. Learners will understand MAPCY within the larger child welfare system and gain new skills to support permanency and children who are in care. 2.0 CEUs.
