February 28th, 2025 Celebrating National Social Worker Month and Revisiting Social Work Stories
2 min read

Every March, we celebrate National Social Work Month as a time to recognize the dedication, resilience, and impact of social workers across the country. This year, we want to express our appreciation for the numerous ways social workers are embedded within child welfare work. Beyond our appreciation, we want to invite in the voices of these workers who make a difference every day. That’s why we’re launching the “Why I Work in Child Welfare” series, highlighting the personal journeys that led individuals into this profession.
The Role of Social Workers in Child Welfare
Social workers in child welfare play a crucial role in supporting families and navigating complex systems to ensure safety and stability of everyone involved. Many enter the profession to advocate for children, strengthen communities, and drive systemic change. This work requires ongoing professional development, critical thinking, and resilience in the face of challenges. Whether they are working in case management, policy development, or family support services, child welfare social workers dedicate their careers to making a lasting impact.
By sharing these stories, we hope to inspire current and future social workers, highlight the skills and expertise required in child welfare, and celebrate the meaningful contributions of those in the field.
How You Can Participate
Are you a Minnesota social worker within child welfare with a story to share? We’d love to hear from you! Here’s how you can be part of this series:
- Submit Your Story – Tell us about the moment you knew child welfare work was your path. What inspired you? What keeps you going?
- Share a Quote – If you prefer, you can submit a short quote about why you chose this field.
- Record a Video – If you’re comfortable, a short (30-60 second) video sharing your story can be a powerful way to engage others.
To participate, email us at info@mnchildwelfaretraining.com or send us a direct message on our social media platforms @mncwta. Please include in your response how you would like your quote to be identified as anonymous, position title only, county only, name and position, etc. Keep in mind that what you share will be publicly viewable.
