Learn more about Zach Schmit, the new Graduate Assistant for the Minnesota Child Welfare Training Academy.

  1. What is your job title, and what will you be doing? I am the new Communications Graduate Assistant, and I will be working mainly on the Academy's social media, helping write content, and proofreading.
  2. Tell us about your education and/or work experience prior to joining the MNCWTA. I graduated from the University of Minnesota with my bachelor's in Health Services Management last spring, and am currently about to start my second year of my Master of Public Health program in Community Health Promotion, also at the U. In addition to working at the Academy, I am a graduate research assistant in the School of Social Work, and intern for Between Us Health, and a barista at Caribou Coffee.
  3. What are you most passionate about professionally? I am most passionate about improving health equity for adolescents and LGBTQ+ people.
  4. What are you most passionate about personally? My professional goals stem from my personal passions, as I am passionate about making the world a more accepting and supportive place for everyone, regardless of how they fit into existing societal standards. I love to support and promote local LGBTQ+ businesses, artists, and performers.
  5. What are you surprisingly good at? Despite being a very unathletic person overall, I am quite good at water skiing!
  6. What do you like to do outside of work? I love to read, listen to podcasts, clean and organize anything and everything, go for long walks, and spend time with my friends.
