The updated Foundations training for new child protection workers starts this September! Following is an overview of what agency supervisors and their workers need to know.

Current Foundations Training Ending

The final cohort of the current Foundations Training (CWTA X100) - Cohort 127 (September 17 - November 14) is completely full. New workers that have not yet started training should consider moving into the new Foundations Cohorts. Learners who are not able to complete ALL parts of CWTA X100 (Classrooms 1-4) will be required to start the new Foundations (CWTA X113) from the very beginning. There will be no excused absences for vacations, court dates, illness, work-related conflicts, etc.

Workers who have completed some of Foundations training but not all should contact Myrna Klegin at mklegin@umn.edu ASAP to help get rescheduled. A checklist for the current curriculum can be found here (for Cohort 127 and earlier).

New Worker Foundations Registration Open

New Worker Foundations (CWTA X113) is now open for supervisors to assign to new child protection workers. The following cohorts are available:

  • Cohort 200 | September 10 - December 20 | Roseville
  • Cohort 201 | September 17 - January 10 | Owatonna
  • Cohort 202 | October 8 - January 23 | Roseville
  • Cohort 203 | November 13 - March 5 | Roseville
  • Cohort 204 | November 20 - March 7 | Detroit Lakes
  • Cohort 205 | December 3 - March 20 | Roseville

Supervisors can assign the new Foundations to new workers through the Training Portal. Once workers enroll in Foundations, they will select the location and dates that work best for them. The full instructor-led schedule for the cohorts listed above can be found here. A checklist for the new curriculum can be found here (for Cohort 200 and beyond).

ICWA/MIFPA Prerequisite

Before new child protection workers can enroll in the new Foundations training, they must complete the prerequisite of ICWA/MIFPA Foundations for New Workers (CWTA X219). New child protection workers can be assigned CWTA X219 by their supervisor in the Training Portal.

Policy Updates

Please be aware that policies have been added and/or changed to address several recent training issues. This includes unregistered learners showing up for trainings (or sharing Zoom links with colleagues), as well as additional time needed for grading (which can cause delays between sequential courses). Our Training Policies can be found here. Please make sure your workers are aware of these policies.
