MN Child Welfare Training Academy Logo with colorful maple leave to celebrate Pride Month

The Minnesota Child Welfare Training Academy is proud to acknowledge and celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month this June. Research consistently shows that LGBTQ youth (as well as tribal and youth of color) are overrepresented in the foster care system. To better help child welfare professionals working with LGBTQ individuals, our staff has created a Pride resource website that provides Minnesota history, information about virtual pride events, and community resources.

We also encourage you to visit the Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare’s LGBTQ Youth in Foster Care page that provides a wealth of additional resources. To learn more about Pride Month check out this information provided by the Library of Congress.

Part of committing to equitable child welfare practice means taking actionable steps. Several ways to take action include learning more about gender expression, by sharing your pronouns in meetings, and adding your pronouns to your email signature.
