During the first week of September, the Training Academy released the latest version of Mandated Reporter Training. Based on feedback from community partners and learners, this updated course includes information about labor trafficking as a form of child maltreatment, which was added in legislation in July 2025, as well as expanded content about identifying child neglect, abuse, and trafficking.

The Training Academy collaborated with policy partners in the State of Minnesota and experts from the fields of health, education, and social work to determine the scope and content of revisions. Our collaboration partners offered invaluable insight into the nuances of reporting decisions in order to meet the real-life needs of those with the responsibility to report.

Mandated reporters—such as educators, health professionals, social workers, law enforcement, and others—play a vital role in protecting children, families, and communities. This updated course equips participants with the knowledge and confidence to carry out this responsibility effectively, while ensuring alignment with Minnesota’s current statutes and best practices.

We encourage all child welfare professionals and other community partners who are mandated reporters to complete or refresh their learning with the revised training. Staying current ensures that mandated reporters remain well prepared to respond when concerns arise, ultimately helping to create safer communities for children and families.

The new version of Mandated Reporter Training takes approximately 60 minutes to complete, and learners will be eligible for 1 CEU. Additional video resources on labor trafficking can be found at the bottom of the Mandated Report Training page.
